In the very first scene, we meet Tyler's secret crush, Bethany Millbury.Bethany is on the tennis team, and came to greet Mrs. Miller while she was picking up Tyler from community service at school. Once Bethany saw how built Tyler got over the summer, she approaches him, at an office party. Since Tyler's dad works for Millbury, the Millers were all invited. Bethany talks to Tyler, and suddenly, Bethany's older brother pushes Tyler into Bethany. A nearby waitress dropped her champagne glasses on Bethany and she received many cuts on her legs.
The next day, Tyler went to apologize and sat down to talk to Bethany. They talked for a really long time, and Tyler starts realizing that Bethany is flirting with him. Even after school begins, Bethany sits by Tyler in every class they have together and starts waiting up for him after school, and invites him (as a date!) to a football game.
